Silver Birch – Year 3

Croeso Dosbarth Silver Birch!

Home Learning - 13th July 2020

Hi Silver Birch! The last week of term is here! Where did that year go?!  It was lovely to see some of our class again last week. We had a lovely time working on our home learning, getting creative and enjoying time outside. It has also been really lovely to see children that haven't returned to school as they picked up their things. I've missed you! I'm looking forward to spending time with some of you in our last week together as Year 3. If you are at home, our last week of activities are on Google Classroom ready for you with any instructions you might need. If you need anything, please use my email address on the website to contact me.

Miss H :)

Our Learning Journey:

Autumn Term: Our topics for the term was making a difference to ourselves and our school environment. As a class we decided that for ourselves, we were going to make a difference to own health and fitness. We decided that we were going to create an exercise circuit and measure our progress and fitness over the term. We had great fun designing our exercise circuit and learning about measuring heart rates and our pulse.

To make a difference to the school environment, we decided as a class that we wanted to replace the lunch bags with a more efficient system. The children tested out a variety of different materials and used this to inform their designs for a new lunchbox solution. We then created and planned our own fundraising activity in our to pay for our new lunchbox trolleys.

Spring Term:

Our topic for this term was making a difference to the local community. As a class, we decided that we were going to focus on the canal as we had been inspired by our work with Keep Wales Tidy. We learnt lots about the canal such as the history, canal animals and habitats and the impact of litter on on our environment. The children then chose their favourite part of the learning and recreated it as an exhibition for the children and parents of Millbrook. We also planned a community litter pick to clean up our local canal area and invited our parents to come along. On our litter pick, we had the opportunity to feed the ducks using the specially designed bird food that we created ourselves.

Summer Term:

Our topic for this term is the country of Spain. We will be looking at all things related to Spain and Spanish culture. This will included a chance to learn some Spanish, and learn about things such as Spanish cuisine, weather and the history and geography of Spain. Some of our favourite activities so far have included recreating art from famous Spanish artists, creating Spanish dishes at home and exploring different festivals.
