‘Learning about caring; caring about learning’

Oak – Reception

Tuesday 21st September.

Hello, its been a great start to to our year in Oak class. I would love to have all my parents in about now to talk about reading but we are not allowed. So I am going to try to explain it on here as best as I can.

We teach letter sounds, we use Read Write Inc sounds. They have a great website if you want to have a look. We teach a few a week and I write them on the website so that you know what we are doing. Sometimes I teach them quite quickly and sometimes I slow right down, depending on how the children are remembering them. I cannot give you a forward week by week plan.

As soon as we know a few sounds we start putting them together to make words, we have already used a and m to make am.

I also teach some words that cannot be sounded out. I teach these from flashcards and we go through them every day, so far we have learned I and the.

The third thing we do is the most important and one which I would love you to help me with.

I try to help the children love books and stories, so that they really want to read and do not regard it as a horrible chore. If you look for writing all over the place and talk about how helpful and interesting it is that will inspire and motivate your children to do the same.

Thank you so much for your support.
