‘Learning about caring; caring about learning’

Thinking Skills at Millbrook Primary

Thinking Skills at Millbrook Primary

Our visionary motto is "Learning about caring; caring about learning." As a school community we believe that the development of a child's thinking is inextricably linked to the development of their learning. Indeed, the Curriculum in Wales promotes the development of thinking implicitly across all 4 purposes and the 6 Areas of Learning.

We have taken time as a community to revisit our school vision and ensure that thinking development is at the core of what we do. Our students have had a big part to play in our vision growth.

The development of the thinking of our whole learning organization is a priority for us - we want adults and children to continue to improve their thinking abilities in order to be successful in learning.

Working with Thinking Matters

In June 2020, at the heart of the pandemic, we began to further improve our thinking development journey by working with the organization Thinking Matters. Consultant, Paul Tyack, has supported us providing staff with training and helping our thinking drive team to conduct in depth research.

As a result of training we have striven to make thinking more visible across the school. We have adapted our timetable and curriculum to give all learners time to think and time to talk.
