Free School Meals

Free School Meal Distribution from April 27th on wards

From week beginning 27th April the local authority will be issuing food vouchers for every child eligible for free school meals on a fortnightly basis. Vouchers will be emailed directly to families via their personal email address. The vouchers can be used in most major supermarkets.

Families without access to an email will have alternative arrangements made for the collection of the voucher. This will be communicated via school text messaging service.

Free School Meal Distribution

Free school meals hubs have been established across the city. Any child eligible for free school meals will be able to attend any hub setting (times to be agreed locally) to collect a lunch of a sandwich, crisps, snack and a piece of fruit.

We are unable to arrange delivery to children who are self-isolating or socially distancing, however affected families can make local arrangements for someone else to attend and collect on their behalf.

Hubs will be issuing food on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Our local Free School Meal Hub is based at Newport High School.

For pupils who normally receive free school meals, the following arrangements will be in place for meal collection from 30th March:

From Monday, the lunch offer will be as follows:

  • Choice of sandwich - cheese or ham, packaged  and with full allergen info
  • Fruit (apple, easy peeler, grapes, melon, pineapple, as available) - as much as they want.
  • Crisps
  • Biscuits
  • Cake
  • Drink

Food will be available for collection from Newport High School on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays only. On Mondays and Wednesdays you will be able to collect 2 days of lunches to avoid making journeys for food collection every day.
